The Drug Controller General of India DCGI has approved Bharat Biotech's Covaxin for emergency use for children aged 6-12 years. Apart from this, DCGI has also approved Zayed Cadila's Zycov D vaccine for emergency use for children above 12 years of age.
The decision comes after a meeting of the Subject Expert Committee (SEC) of the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI), in which data was sought from Bharat Biotech for administering the COVID-19 vaccine Covaxin to children in the age group of 2-12 years.
The development comes just days after an expert panel of India's central drug authority recommended granting emergency use authorization for Biological E's COVID-19 vaccine Corbevax for children in the five to 11 years age group with certain conditions.
