Bhumi Pednekar, a young Bollywood actress, is a climate change activist who is the face of the much praised social media effort Climate Warrior, which attempts to raise awareness about environmental protection. Bhumi hopes that the outbreak hasn't caused governments around the world to shift their attention away from climate change on World Nature Conservation Day today on 28th July.

“With all the focus on COVID-19 and restarting the world, we have to recognise that climate change is occurring right now,” Bhumi added. Yes, the entire focus has been on the coronavirus epidemic, as it should be, but I'm hoping that governments haven't forgotten about the important issue of climate change.”

Extreme weather conditions are affecting people all throughout the world, and Bhumi is concerned. “The pandemic has given us time to reset ourselves and our outlook on the environment,” she remarked. We must always be aware of what is going on around us. Despite the fact that Mother Nature has had some time to heal, the impending danger has not been averted.

Forest flames, flash floods, and polar cap melting are still happening all around us.”

“We all need to realise that climate change is real and now,” the versatile actress continued. “We've advanced it to the point that it's having serious consequences, and there appears to be no stopping it now. We've seen it all: flash floods, droughts, forest fires, disease outbreaks, and major extinctions. Our fundamental behaviour must change towards this global crisis.”

As a concerned Indian citizen, I've attempted to use social media to reach out to as many people as possible and to discover new ways to reach out to the youth in order to raise awareness about climate change. We'll all have to be climate warriors and do everything we can.”

Now it's critical for us to recognise that we've pushed it beyond our control, and if we don't correct the situation, it won't be beneficial for future generations,” Pednekar cautions.

The 32-year-old thinks it's unfair that all children and young adults to not have the opportunities she and others have enjoyed, such as "the freedom to breathe clean air, drink clean water, and enjoy nature the way we did.”

“Today is the day about knowing that what we have left is the best, and we need to grasp it tight, protect it, and regenerate more,” she continues. That is our responsibility to future generations. We were born on a rich planet, and now we've arrived to this stage... We need world leaders and the general public to recognise that what we're doing today isn't acceptable.

We must coexist peacefully with environment and other creatures. Humans, in general, are extremely selfish. We frequently forget that we cannot continue to exploit nature and its resources.”

Pednekar, on the other hand, is optimistic and believes there has been a shift in the way people think about it.

“We've learned a lesson in the last two years of the Corona pandemic. It came at a high price, but now people are talking about it. People are showing sympathy for the environment, but it isn't enough; we need a lot more,” she emphasises.

“Through my effort, Climate Warrior, I have met and met such brilliant minds who are working relentlessly to effect change on a personal basis. And that, my friends, is the key. We must come up and speak out in order for world leaders and policymakers to take action,” Bhumi Pednekar said.

The actor expressed her deep belief that our age must be the generation that regenerates and restores our world on World Nature Conservation Day.
