Bail has been granted to former Akali minister Bikram Majithia. Majithia was granted bail by the High Court's double bench. However, a detailed order is awaited regarding what conditions have been imposed on it.  However, Majithia's lawyer says that he will be released from the jail this evening. The necessary formalities are being finished for this.

A drug case was registered against Majithia by the previous Congress government. He has been lodged in Patiala Central Jail since February 24. Majithia had filed a petition in the Supreme Court to have the matter dismissed, but he was then told to appear before the High Court.

Majithia's lawyers in the High Court termed the case registered against him as political vendetta. Majithia is coming out of jail at a time when there is a ruckus in the Akali Dal. A rebellious atmosphere is growing against the Badal family and the Akali leadership.

To hear Majithia's regular bail, the Chief Justice of the High Court had previously formed a bench consisting of Justices AG Masih and Sandeep Moudgil. Justice Masih refused to hear the case. The case was then sent to Justice Rao and Justice Anoop Chitkara bench. Justice Anoop Chitkara, however, declined to hear. After hearing it, the justices Sureshwar Thakur and Ramachandra Rao's bench now granted bail.
