Big relief to Chief Secretary Janjua: High Court dismisses petition filed against his promotion and appointment

Punjab Chief Secretary (CS) VK Janjua has got a big relief. The petition filed against him has been dismissed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The petition challenged Janjua's promotion and appointment to the position of CS. For this, reference was made to the pending corruption case against him. The petitioner withdrew it during the hearing on Thursday, which led to the High Court dismissing it.

In the last hearing, Advocate General Vinod Ghai appeared on behalf of the Punjab government. He stated that VK Janjua had not received a promotion. He has been transferred as Chief Secretary. The High Court then ordered Janjua's entire record to be submitted in two weeks.

On November 9, 2009, the Vigilance Bureau arrested VK Janjua for allegedly accepting a bribe of 2 lakhs while serving as the Director of Industries. This amount was said to have been taken from a businessman in Ludhiana. The following day, Janjua was dismissed from his position and a complaint was filed against him. Being an IAS officer, approval was not taken from the central government to run the case against him. The Vigilance Bureau refused to pursue the case against him further.
