Lok Sabha Election 2024 Punjab Trending

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday announced 6 candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections in Punjab. BJP announces their names and their constituencies from where they will contest the elections. Among their list of candidates was legendary Punjabi folk singer, Hans Raj Hans. BJP will be fielding the artist from the Faridkot constituency, setting up a tight battle between celebrities against Aam Aadmi Party’s contestant, actor-comedian Karmjit Anmol.

AAP has fielded Karmjit Anmol on the Faridkot (Reserved) parliamentary seat of Punjab. Karmjit will be contesting his first ever Lok-Sabha elections, while Hans Raj has had a fair amount of experience having scored a victory in the 2019 elections from the Delhi-West Constituency. However, it is pertinent to note that Hans Raj has not won a single election in Punjab, having previously contested with Akali Dal and Congress.

Experience in the Industry:

Also, while Karmjit Anmol has been in the entertainment industry since 1995, Hans Raj Hans also takes the upper hand in experience there as he  has been a well-known name in the music industry of Punjab long before that. Karmjit Anmol shares a close bond with sitting Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, having performed together on several occasions, when both were active in the entertainment industry.

Another gamble with a Celebrity:

BJP has previously put their hopes behind a celebrity for the Parliament seat in Punjab to much success. The party fielded prolific actor Sunny Deol from the Gurdaspur Constituency in 2019, with the actor scoring victory over, at the time, Congress’ Sunil Jakhar. However, due to Deol’s abstinence from politics, BJP has put their hopes on a local face in the form of Dinesh Singh ‘Babbu’ from Gurdaspur.
