Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, who was known to help the needy during the lockdown, might get in serious trouble. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has lodged a complaint against Sood at Juhu police station on charges of converting a 6-storey residential building into a hotel. In the complaint given by BMC, it has been said that Sonu Sood has converted the Shakti Sagar Building on AB Nair Road in Mumbai into a hotel without permission.

Shakti Sagar is a residential building and cannot be used commercially. It is punishable under section 7 of the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning Act. The BMC has accused Sonu Sood of increasing the portion of the building, changing the map and changing the usage.

has asked the Juhu police to take cognizance of the offence committed by the actor under the Maharashtra Region and Town Planning (MRTP) Act citing unauthorised additions, alteration and change of user.

On the other hand, Sonu Sood has totally refuted such accusations by the BMC. He said that there are “no irregularities”. He had BMC permissions for change of user and was only waiting for a clearance from the Maharashtra Coastal Zone Management Authority (MCZMA).

The BMC has also said in its complaint that Sonu Sood himself has made a change in the use of land. Apart from this, additional construction has been done by fixed plans. For this, Sood has not even obtained the necessary approval from the authority. The actor has also been accused of ignoring the notice. BMC said in its complaint that even after the notice was given, Sood continued to carry out unauthorized construction.

In October 2020, Sonu Sood had moved the city civil court against a notice sent by the BMC, but he did not get any interim relief. The court had given Sood three weeks’ time to appeal in the high court. The time passed but he did not restore the alterations and additions as per the approved plan, a civic official told the publication. Therefore, the BMC has filed a police complaint to register an FIR under the MRTP Act.
