Breaking: Bus falls into canal in Madhya Pradesh with 50 passengers onboard

18 have died while many are feared to have drowned.

Many people are feared dead after a bus full of passengers fell into a canal in Madhya Pradesh's Sidhi district on Tuesday morning. According to the sources, there were over 50 passengers onboard the bus and 18 have died while many are feared to have drowned.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has tweeted, "सीधी की दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण घटना को लेकर मैं लगातार प्रशासन से और राहतकार्य में लगे हुए लोगों से चर्चा कर रहा हूँ। बहुत दुःखद है कि दुर्घटना में 18 लोगों की जान चली गई है। मन बहुत व्यथित है। बचावकार्य लगातार जारी है; कलेक्टर, कमिश्नर, आईजी, एसपी, एसडीआरएफ की टीम लगी हुई है।" (I am regularly in touch with administration and rescuers regarding the unfortunate incident of Sidhi. It is very saddening that 18 people have lost their lives. I am in distress. Rescue operations are on. Collector, Commissioner, IG, SP, SDRF teams are working."

According to the information received from the Control Room, the bus is submerged in deep water which could cause a large number of fatalities. "The bus was enroute to Rewa from Sidhi. Suddenly, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into the Sharda canal under the Rampur police station area. There is water in the canal and the bus has been submerged in it. Search is on for passengers," the police said.
