Bride calls off marriage after groom fails to read newspaper without glasses

Bride’s father said that when he first met Shivam he thought he was wearing glasses for style, but got to know about his weak eyesight on wedding day.

Indian weddings are already dramatic enough with numerous guests and a long list of rituals. However, this wedding season, we have heard of several dramatic and bizarre incidents after which marriages are being called off. In a similar incident, a bride refused to marry the groom just before the marriage rituals were to begin.

Allegedly a woman from Uttar Pradesh canceled the wedding at last moment after the groom failed to read a Hindi newspaper. No, the groom didn’t fail because he was illiterate but failed because his glasses were not on.

Reportedly, Archana, daughter of Arjun Singh from Jamalpur village was to marry Shivam. Arjun Singh had fixed the wedding as Shivam is well literate. The bride’s family has also offered gifts, some cash and a motorcycle to groom as dowry.

However, on the wedding day, the bride’s family noticed that groom was constantly wearing a pair of glasses and got suspicious. To clarify their doubts about his eyesight, family asked him to read a Hindi newspaper with glasses, which he failed.

Knowing of groom’s weak eyesight, the bride refused to marry him. The family respected her decision and called off the wedding. Bride’s father Arjun Singh said that when he first met Shivam he thought he was wearing glasses for style, but got to know about his weak eyesight on wedding day.

After calling off the wedding, the bride’s family has demanded all the offered dowry back and looking forward to return of all expenses spent in the marriage. However, groom’s family refused to return the possessions. Following this bride’s family has lodged FIR against groom and his relatives.
