On Wednesday, Britney Spears urged a judge to end an ‘abusive’ guardianship that gave her father a right to control her affair in 2008. It was an emotional hearing for Britney on Wednesday.

A judge heard Britney through virtual video-link and her diehard fans chanted their support outside the courtroom. It was a 20-minute address. Spears urged, “I just want my life back. It’s been 13 years and it’s enough.” She further said, “I’ve been in denial. I’ve been in shock. I am traumatized. I just want my life back.”

Jamie Spears manages the finances and personal life of the 39-year-old star since her highly public breakdown more than a decade ago, which lead some fans to launch a ‘FreeBritney’ online campaign in recent years.

Spears said, in a speech where the star hardly stopped to catch her breath, under the legal arrangement, she has been prevented from having a contraceptive implant removed, despite she wanted to conceive more children. Now, she is the mother of two children.

The mother of two said that it had left her “traumatized” and “depressed”. She said, while crying, “I’m not happy. I can’t sleep. I’m so angry. It’s insane.”

She added that “I cried every day and I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive. I want changes, I deserve changes.”

Spears has a difficult relationship with her father. The singer has rarely spoken directly about the guardianship but in April, her lawyer, Samuel Ingham, showed interest that Spears wanted to directly address the court, which resulted in Wednesday’s hearing.

Last year, she filed a plea to remove her father from the conservatorship and give sole power over her estate to a financial institution. Her appointed lawyer from the court said that she was “afraid” of her father.

Confidential records published on Tuesday by the New York Times said that Spears told the court investigator that the conservatorship had “become an oppressive and controlling tool against her” as far back as 2016.

Reportedly, Spears said that the guardianship system had “too much control… too, too much!”
