Concerned about the further spread of Covid-19 in thenation, Canada is mulling to extend the suspension of directs Indian flightsfor another 30 days.

However, there has been no such official announcement,the Canadian government tried to disseminate the information well in advance tothe Indian govt.

Earlier the suspension was scheduled to conclude on April22 however, an overwhelming increase in the Covid-19 cases made the Canadiangovt to extend ban by May 21 to June 21 and now until July 21.

This move of Justin Trudeau is said to have taken underthe pressure from the state representatives after several cases of Delta variantwere detected in their country.

The Delta variant that originated in India has spreadglobally infecting thousands at once. Also, the Canadian govt consider it to be150% more transmissible than the original virus.

It is pertinent to mention here that before the travelsuspension, both Air India and Air Canada were operating daily flights from NewDelhi to Toronto and Vancouver through an air bubble set up in summer 2020.

While Indian flights will remain suspended, Canada ispondering to resume flight services from Pakistan.

 “Air travelersfrom Pakistan will be required to obtain a COVID-19 molecular test in Pakistanto board a flight to Canada,” he added.

Apart from this, the Canadian govt is likely to ease thenorms on Monday which include exemption for the mandatory hotel quarantine forcitizens and permanent residents who are fully vaccinated.

However, as of now, those arriving in Canada will have tocarry a negative RT-PCR test report before boarding and they will undergo anothertest on arrival and will remain in the designated hotel by the time result isavailable. Even with another negative result, they have to complete the full14-day self-isolation period.
