Chandigarh: Welcoming the CBI probe into post-matric SC scholarships in Punjab, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said Sadhu Singh Dharmsot, cabinet minister Punjab has reportedly done a big scam in scholarships in which thousands of Scheduled Caste students were deprived of the amount of scholarships given by the Modi government at the Centre.

Chugh said that the scam involved more than Rs.300 crore which was sent by the Union government of Narendra Modi but the Amarinder Singh government did not provide scholarships to the students belonging to Scheduled Castes. He said that instead of conducting an impartial inquiry into the scam, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had tried to save his cabinet colleague who had perpetrated the scam. He had issued a false clean chit to cover up the scandal of his government ministers.

Chugh said that due to non-receipt of scholarships by the children of 33% of the population of Punjab, thousands of students belonging to Scheduled and Backward Classes were being forced to drop out of educational institutions. He said that by covering up the post-matric scholarship scam of SC students, the Captain government was making a heinous move to increase its number in the Congress faction. He said that in the scholarship scheme of the Modi government provision has been made to pay Rs.230 to Rs.550 per month non-refundable fees, university fees and allowances to the students which are not given to the Dalit students of Punjab.
