Centre provides 1.29 bn Covid vaccine doses to states, UTs

Government of India has been supporting the states and UTs by providing them with free Covid-19 vaccines as part of the nationwide vaccination drive.

The Union Health Ministry announced on Saturday that over 1.29 billion Coronavirus vaccine doses have been distributed to states and union territories through a free-of-charge channel and direct state procurement category.


The states and union territories still have more than 216.5 million balance and unutilized Covid-19 vaccine doses, according to the report.

The Union government, according to the ministry, is committed to speeding up and expanding the scope of Covid-19 vaccination across the country.

According to the Health Ministry, the vaccination drive has been greatly enhanced by the availability of more vaccines, advance visibility of vaccine availability to states and Union Territories for better planning, and revamping the vaccine supply chain.

Meanwhile, India's COVID-19 cases increased by 10,302 in a day to 3,44,99,925, while the number of active cases decreased to 1,24,868.

According to Union Health Ministry data, the total number of deaths has risen to 4,65,349, with 267 more deaths.

Active cases fell by 1,752 in just 24 hours, to 0.36 percent of total infections, the lowest level since March 2020. The national COVID-19 recovery rate was also recorded at 98.29%, the highest since March of last year, according to the Health Ministry.

For 43 days in a row, the daily increase in new coronavirus infections has been less than 20,000, and for 146 days in a row, it has been less than 50,000.

The daily positivity rate was 0.96 percent on average. For the past 47 days, it has been less than 2%. The positivity rate for the week was 0.93 percent. For the past 57 days, it has remained below 2%.
