Congress MP slams Chandigarh Administration for demolishing largest slum colony on Labor Day

The administration vacated about 65 acres of government land worth Rs. 2,000 crore.

The Chandigarh administration on Sunday demolished the city's largest slum cluster, Colony No. 4, on May 1. With this, the administration vacated about 65 acres of government land worth Rs. 2,000 crore.
 
Congress MP Manish Tiwari has questioned the administration for taking this step. Taking to Twitter, he wrote, "Yesterday was Labor Day -May 1st 2022. In Chandigarh @ChandigarhAdmn devastated home & hearth of 4000 working class families using bulldozer’s.They levelled to the ground Colony No 4 in Industrial Area Phase -1. Israeli tactics against Palestinians has become weapon of choice."


 
Chandigarh Mahila Congress president Deepa Dubey attacked BJP and local MP Kiran Kher for this. She said, " When the 10th and 12th class examinations are going on, how justified is it to snatch the roof off their heads. Why is the UT administration and MP Kiran Kher playing with their future? ”

In Chandigarh, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) was enforced within a 500-meter radius of the illegal colony.
