Chhath Puja is a traditional Hindu festival. This festival is especially celebrated in the Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Kathmandu Valley, Delhi, Mumbai and Calcutta. It is one of the most significant Hindu festivals. This festival honours the Sun God (Surya dev) and Chhathi Maiya (Goddess Shashti). Celebrating this festival invokes blessings for good health, prosperity, and well-being.
Chhath puja 2024 will be celebrated for 4 days. It will begin with Nahaye Khaye on 5th November and conclude on 8th November with Usha Arghya. This festival includes strict fasting, holy bathing, and worshiping Lord Sun.
During Chhath Puja, prayers are dedicated to Lord Surya. People follow a strict lifestyle of purity and discipline during the Chhath Puja. Devotees are seen keeping strict fasts without water for 36 hours. During the puja, offerings are presented to Lord Sun and Goddess Shashti. The offerings include fruits, sweets, thekua (a famous traditional sweet made with wheat flour) and other sweets prepared with care and cleanliness.
The Sun God symbolizes life, energy, and growth in Hindu mythology. By worshipping God Surya during Chhath, devotees express their gratitude for all these blessings and acknowledge the energy that helps the lives to sustain on Earth. Goddess Shashti also known as Chhathi Maiya is the protector of children and goddess of health and prosperity. By celebrating Chhath Puja devotees cleanse their minds and bodies. Celebrating this festival promotes healing and brings inner peace.
