China’s several territories are fighting the worst Coronavirus spread since the deadly disease first broke in Wuhan in 2019. The highly-infectious delta variant of the virus is spreading ever faster across the country despite the intensive measures implemented by the local officials to contain it.

Local infections have now been detected in 19 of 31 provinces across the Asian nation.

On Wednesday, China reported 93 new local Covid-19 cases and 11 asymptomatic infections.

Delta variant cases have been detected in three more provinces including Chongqing and Henan, and Jiangsu on the eastern coast.

The commitment to maintain a Zero approach despite the rise that is emerging faster is spreading faster and is escaping many measures that previously had controlled it, Officials said.

Several countries like Australia and Singapore shifted their focus with severe responses that were needed to eradicate the delta variant by adapting Zero-tolerance practices rather than relying on high vaccination rates to live along with the virus that has become endemic.

Meanwhile, Beijing on Wednesday recorded nine infection cases including the one that was earlier reported as asymptomatic. In the current wave, the capital city’s total case count now stands at 38, the highest since the pre-delta outbreak was reported last January and February.

Two schools kids were quarantined by the authorities after a teacher was found to be Covid positive, while another bunch of 16 schools were shut since their staff members may have been present at the vaccination venue were predicting the infected teacher recently received a booster shot for the disease.

Urging the residents on Tuesday to accumulate necessities as fall and winter are approaching, the Ministry of Commerce has also asked people to be prepared for future outbreaks that could trigger hardcore lockdowns.

Officials of the Chongqing municipality initiated large-scale testing overnight in response to the latest outbreak to act decisively during the “golden 24 hours”. Since Wednesday, schools in the Jiangsu province have been closed for a minimum of three days as students are attending classes online.

China’s effort to eradicate Covid-19 has no limits. On Sunday, after a visitor tested positive at Shanghai’s Disneyland, more than 30000 people were made to wait inside the park till early midnight and tested. Residents of the remote southeastern city of Ruili on the border with high-risk Myanmar are banned from leaving the city for months.

The country’s health expert, Zhong Nanshan is confident about China effectively controlling the outbreak in a month as per an interview with the local media.

Even though several countries have learned to live with the virus, Zhong believes in China’s Covid Zero approach as he helped the government squash many outbreaks since the pandemic began. He says that the restrictions to control the virus is a costly approach but allowing the virus to spread would be an even more costly affair for the country.
