CM Channi’s wealth accrues being MLA; but dissipates as soon as he becomes CM from a Minister

According to his election affidavit, Channi (58) owns an SUV, Toyota Fortuner, worth Rs 32.57 lakh while his wife, who is a doctor, has two vehicles worth Rs 45.99 lakh

When Punjab's first Dalit CM Charanjit Channi was a minister, his wealth kept on increasing.  However, it declined as soon as he became the Chief Minister.  Not only this, he ultimately went in debt.  Channi had assets of 9.20 crores and a debt of 17.72 lakhs while contesting elections in 2012.  In 2017, his assets increased to 11.70 crores and debt also reduced to 10.84 lakhs.

Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate Charanjit Singh Channi filed his nomination papers from the Bhadaur (SC) and Chamkaur Sahib constituency.

In the year 2012, Charanjit Channi had cash of 20 lakhs.  Out of it, Rs 9.54 lakh rupees were deposited in the bank.  He had a postal saving of 37 thousand.  There was a total movable property of 50.91 lakhs including Fortuner of 16 lakhs, Gold worth 5 lakhs.  Apart from this, Channi had 57 kanals of land worth 8.70 crores in Kharar, commercial building in Kharar -Morinda.  Channi also had a loan of 17.72 lakhs.

Channi's assets increased again in 2017 as MLA and his debt decreased. At that time, Charanjit Channi had movable assets worth Rs 47.42 lakh including 2.40 lakh cash, Rs 17.02 lakh in bank, postal savings of Rs 5 lakh, jewelery worth Rs 7 lakh and fortuner worth Rs 16 lakh.  Apart from this, Channi's immovable assets increased to 11.70 crores.  He had a loan of 10.84 lakhs at that time. 

But when he became minister and then chief minister in 2022, his assets started decreasing and , debt Keeps on increasing. In 2022, CM Channi has 1.5 lakh cash, 78.50 lakh in the bank, 32.57 lakh fortuner, 10 lakh jewelery and a total of 1.46 crore movable assets including investment of 26.67 lakh in petrol pump.  The CM had left with immovable assets worth 2.46 crores.  During this, the CM's debt increased to 63.29 lakhs.
