CM Mann implements Anand Marriage Act in Punjab on Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Praksh Parv

Many Sikhs were of opinion that religious minorities like Sikhs and Jains were clubbed under the Hindu Marriage Act which goes against the secular spirit of the Indian Constitution.

CM Mann of the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Prakash Parv made a big announcement for people residing in Punjab. During his visit to Shri Anandpur Sahib along with wife, CM while interacting with media personnel announced that Anand Marriage Act will be implemented in Punjab.

The Chief Minister further added that in 2016, suggestion to implement the act was given but no decision was taken on same. Now, as present government has decided to fully implement this act in Punjab, notifications regarding this will be sent to people. He also stated that every person will be made aware about this act.

As per latest information, Sikhs from long time back have been demanding to have a separate marriage act for community under which the marriages can get registered. Sikhs in Punjab are made to register their marriages under Hindu Marriage Act 0f 1995. This led to a lot of problems for Sikh community residing outside India as they were identified as Sikh there but the marriage registered under Hindu Act caused issues.

Many Sikhs were of opinion that religious minorities like Sikhs and Jains were clubbed under the Hindu Marriage Act which goes against the secular spirit of the Indian Constitution. The step taken by AAP government is a huge one to be taken in Punjab.
