Commissionerate police arrests one for extorting money by impersonating as journalist

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Mr Swapan Sharma has arrested a person for Defamation and extorting money by impersonating as a journalist.

The Jalandhar Commissionerate Police led by Commissioner of Police Mr Swapan Sharma has arrested  a person for Defamation and extorting money by impersonating as a journalist. 

Giving the details, the Commissioner of Police said that the Commissionerate Police had launched a major drive against the violators of the law. He said that as a part of this campaign the Police Division number 7 had received a complaint by social activist Suruchi Kakkar. Mr Swapan Sharma said that in her complaint she had alleged that Sandeep Wadhwa, who was impersonating as a journalist, had demanded Rs 1 lakh from her. 

The Commissioner of Police said that Suruchi Kakkar had complained that Wadhwa had threatened to defame her in the newspaper in case she refused. Mr Swapan Sharma said Wadhwa had proceeded further to extort ₹50,000 from her over two months and shared her photos without consent. 

The Commissioner of Police said that based on the complaint a FIR number 34 dated 23-03-2024 u/s 384,500, 506 IPC was registered at PS Division 7 Jalandhar. Subsequently, he said that Sandeep Wadhwa s/o Shri Ram Chand r/o H.No 385 Bank Enclave has been arrested by the Police. Mr Swapan Sharma said that another complaint was lodged against Wadhwa, accusing him of threatening the complainant with harm if money wasn't provided, resulting in the  addition of sections 386/387 IPC to the case.
