As the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-elections are getting closer, the congress has been hit by the loss of Sushil Kumar Rinku, their star candidate from Jalandhar west. Not only did Rinku leave their ranks for AAP but also took other important leaders with him. Attempting damage control, senior leaders like ex congress president Raja Warring, ex CM Channi, leader of opposition Pratap Singh Bajwa and ex congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu were seen together after a long time. They gathered to file the candidacy of Kamaljit Kaur, the wife of late Santokh Chaudhary, who died during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra. Jalandhar is an important seat and this public gathering is seen as a show of force by the congress. The attempted revival is necessary considering the recent blows sustained to the ranks of the party, and the internal conflicts, that have often been on public display among the aforementioned leaders. Ex-CM Channi also mentioned the sand mafia, sacrilege and problems with law an order as he launched an attack on the incumbent government. He stated that famous Punjabi Singer Sidhu Moosewala’s killing was politically motivated. Channi said that the Aam Aadmi Party is an anti-Dalit party, when it was time for elections, a lot of work was being done to woo the Dalits, but today the scheme started for them are defunct. The Congress government had donated 25 crores to Dera Balla to build a museum, but the Mann government has withdrawn the money but when the by-elections were announced, the tact changes, Channi stated.
