Nirbhaya Case: Pawan Gupta approaches SC against High Court order, claims he was juvenile in 2012

On December 19, Delhi High Court had dismissed Pawan Gupta's plea saying he was a juvenile (underaged) when he and five others gang-raped the paramedic student in December 2012. A trial court had rejected his plea earlier.

Twists and turns are not seeming to close down in Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. Gangrape and murder Pawan Gupta has approached the Supreme Court to challenge the Delhi High Court's decision to dismiss his plea claiming that he was juvenile at the time of the incident.

On December 19, Delhi High Court had dismissed Pawan Gupta's plea saying he was a juvenile (underaged) when he and five others gang-raped the paramedic student in December 2012. A trial court had rejected his plea earlier.

Four of the six accused were convicted and sentenced to capital punishment in September 2013; a convict who was found to be juvenile at the time of the crime was sent to a correction centre with a lesser sentence, while another accused was found hanging in his jail cell during the trial.

The execution of four convicts - Vinay, Akshay, Mukesh Kumar Singh (32) and Pawan Gupta (25) - has been pending pleas and petitions since December 2017, when Supreme Court upheld their capital punishment.
