‘Corona Mata’ temple established in UP is now ‘demolished’, probe underway

After people were seen flocking together to a newly built ‘Corona Temple’, a joint team of Uttar Pradesh police and administration demolished the temple from Juhi Shukulapur village in the Pratapgarh district on Friday night.

A probe is also underway to track record of the construction of the ‘Corona Mata’ temple in the village.

According to Inspector General of Police, Prayagraj range, KP Singh, when the cops came to know about the temple construction immediately team was rushed to the village to remove ‘Corona Mata’ temple on Friday night. This move, however, has come in connection to keep people at bay from superstitious activities.

With an aim to spread awareness, IG Singh added that police teams have been sent to the village to create awareness regarding the contagious Covid-19.

Going by the media reports, ‘Corona Mata’ temple was established three days back in Shuklapur village where hundreds of villagers gathered to offer prayers to the goddess to ward off deadly infection.

A white idol named ‘Corona Mata’ has also been brought to the temple. Notably, the idol, to which people were seen offering prayers and sweets, also wears a face mask.

It was the collective efforts of the villagers to bring up this temple.

“Villagers collectively decided and set up the temple with belief that praying to the deity would certainly offer respite to people from the coronavirus, which has claimed thousands of lives,” said a villager.

In the temple, people have also been asked to follow the Covid-19 appropriate behavior like social distancing, face mask, while offering prayers.
