Corona Vs Elections: Covid Cases growing rapidly in five Electoral states; vulnerable condition

Amid rise in Covid cases, the elections might become a super-spreader event for coronavirus.

The Election Commission of India has announced the dates of elections. ECI aims at conducting Covid safe elections but due to spike in cases, this looks like a dream. Covid cases are growing at a rapid rate in India especially in poll-bound states.

Due to increase in cases, ECI has imposed various restrictions in poll-bound states. They have suggested opting online methods to promote their political party.

In Uttar Pradesh, the number of active cases increased from 1700 to 34,000 within a week. So far, only 53 percent of the population in the state has received both the doses.

In Punjab, there has been an increase of more than 14 times in the active cases in the last seven days. From 1300 active cases, the number jumped to 19,000 active cases. Only 45 percent of the population in the state has received both the doses of vaccine. Till now, 27 cases of Omicron have been reported in the state. The infection rate in the state has also increased to 23.72 percent.

In Goa, the infection rate is much higher that is 27 percent. The condition of Covid cases is much better than other states as 96 percent of its population has received both the doses of vaccine. Till now, 19 cases of Omicron have been reported in the state.

In Uttarakhand, the infection rate in the state is 7.57 percent.  There has been an increase of 10 times in the active cases here in a week. 86 percent of the population in the state has received both the doses of vaccine and 8 cases of Omicron have been reported in the state.

In Manipur, the situation of Covid is better than the other four states. The infection rate here is only 4.14 percent. 51 percent of the population in the state has received both the doses of vaccine.
