Assembly elections 2022 are round the corner. The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the dates of the elections. The elections will take place in 7 phases.

As India has been hit hard by Covid-19, various precautionary measures have been suggested by Election Commission to be followed during the process. In the morning, Health Ministry has recorded 1.41 lakh new cases in the last 24 hours. It will be interesting to note that this will be the first time when elections will take place in five states amid Covid crisis.


People are keen to know - What makes Elections 2022 different from previous ones?

·       This time 18.34 Crore people will cast vote.
·       The number of polling stations is 2,15,368, which employs the number of polling stations has been increased by 16% since the 2017 assembly elections.
·       Election commission is working towards Covid free elections with three broad objectives – Covid Safe elections, Comfortable voting option for voters and Maximum participation of voters.
·       One booth in each constituency to be wholly-managed by Women and one by Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
·       All election officials and employees will be considered as frontline workers; 'Precautionary dose' will be given to all eligible officers. 
·       Mandatory for contesting parties to upload detailed information about candidates with criminal cases on their websites. Important to disclose the reason for selecting such a candidate.
·       Candidates can campaign using digital mediums and avoid physical mediums.
·        No roadshows, padyatras, cycle or bike rallies and processions shall be allowed till 15th January.
·       Option of online nominations will be provided to contesting candidates.
