As the infighting escalates in Punjab congress ahead ofstate assembly polls, the party high command took another initiative to resolvethe ongoing crisis. The top party brass- Punjab CM Charanjit Singh Channi, state party head Navjot Singh Sidhu along with Punjab Affairs in charge HarishChaudhary and Assembly Speaker KP Singh- have reached at KedarnathTemple in Uttarakhand.
After landing from the state chopper, Navjot Sidhu saidthat he and CM would pray for the betterment of Punjab.
“We are seeking Mahakal's blessings. I will pray for thebetterment of Punjab and its people. And that brotherhood in the statepertains,” said the PPCC chief.
Before proceeding to their destination, the leaders alsomet former Punjab affairs in charge Harish Rawat at Dehradun.
After meeting the Punjab leaders, Rawat asserted “all iswell in state". “I believe that the situation will remain stable in stateunit from now on.”
The ex- Punjab AICC head also showed confidence that theChanni-Sidhu duo will lead congress towards winning.
Despite Rawat’s positive comments, the latestdevelopments in state politics narrate a different story.
CM Channi announced tariff reduction on Monday afterwhich Sidhu criticised his own government for lying to people and “making falsepromises.” Responding to Sidhu’s public statements, Channi refused to acceptthe resignation of APS Deol as state Advocate-General.
Notably, Navjot Singh Sidhu is demanding Deol’s removalsince the latter’s appointment. He wants the senior advocate to be ousted forrepresenting two accused cops in a sacrilege and police firing case.
The political spectrum in state is perplexed and islikely to remain unresolved for a long time.
Meanwhile, the opposition took a dig at Congress leadersfor visiting Kedarnath, just months ahead of Punjab polls.
SAD spokesperson Dr Daljit Cheema taking a dig at theChanni-Sidhu duo said, "Navjot Sidhu was minister for around two and halfyears; Channi was also a minister and now became the CM. Both could have usedtheir powers for the betterment of Punjab, but did not."
"Why they did not work earlier?" he inquired, saying "they can't fool people of Punjab."
