Aday after former Congress chief Rahul Gandhi said that no meeting was scheduledbetween him and Sidhu, the cricketer-turned-politician who for a quite longtime has raised a banner of revolt against Punjab chief minister CaptainAmarinder Singh, revealed that he had a long meeting with Congress generalsecretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
NavjotSidhu took to twitter on Wednesday and shared a picture of him with PriyankaGandhi, captioning, “Had a long meeting with Priyanka Gandhi.”
OnTuesday afternoon, Rahul Gandhi stepped outside his house to talk to reportersbut when he was asked he denied any such meeting. He said, "Nomeeting." It was expected that Rahul will give a peace formula to theformer cricketer on his ongoing tussle with Amarinder Singh but there was nomeeting.
Sourcesinformed that the meeting between Sidhu and Priyanka lasted for nearly threehours and they discussed various Punjab issues.
Meanwhile,Navjot Sidhu’s secret meeting with Priyanka has triggered a lot of speculationsand it also signifies there are differences in Gandhi family as one side Rahulwas saying ‘no meeting’ and on the other hand Priyanka meeting him.
Earlier, the AICC panel in a meeting with Punjab CM had reconciled to induct the formerpolitician back, however; Sidhu’s latest interview has stirred anothercontroversy as he repeatedly targeted CM for sidelining him in the party.
Enragedover the remarks, Capt in his last meeting with the panel had made it clear“Not comfortable as a CM to work with Sidhu as a State Unit President.”
Itis to be noted here, Sidhu has always received the backing of Rahul Gandhi andPriyanka Gandhi Vadra in the party affairs. Also, it is expected Rahul’smeeting with Sidhu could be scheduled any time soon or can take place eventoday.
Besides, last week Punjab Congress president Sunil Jhakhar, finance minister ManpreetSingh Badal and MPs Pratap Singh Bajwa and Manish Tewari had met Rahul Gandhiand apprised him of the situation after infighting escalated in the stateCongress.
SunilJakhar said after the meeting, "Hope that the current situation will beresolved and some wrong people are advising the chief minister over thedecision on jobs to kin of MLAs."
Hesaid the issue of Sidhu is under discussion by the party leadership. Whileanother bete noire of the Punjab CM, Pratap Singh Bajwa also met Rahul Gandhiand said that he discussed the ground reality and current political situationin the state.
