Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday has refuted the claims made by the cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu’s meeting with the brother-sister duo in New Delhi on June 30.

Notably, Rahul Gandhi’s statement has come just a day after Sidhu’s team announced that he would meet the party leader along with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to discuss the Punjab Congress infighting ahead of Assembly Elections 2022.

Meanwhile, Sidhu has already left for Delhi from his Patiala residence to meet the party leader.

Sidhu, who has been indulged in a war of words with Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh for months now wanted to meet the Gandhi brother-sister to press for his demands.

In the past week, when Punjab CM went to New Delhi to meet the high-powered panel for the second meeting, plans of his meet with Rahul Gandhi also surfaced. However, the meeting could not take place between Capt the two despite the fact that the High Commission had made it clear that Capt Amarinder Singh will lead the Congress in the upcoming state elections.

As of now, both Sidhu and Capt have met the AICC panel, constituted to resolve the internal conflict, for more than once however, no conclusion has been drawn yet.

Earlier this month, media reports suggested that AICC panel had called Sidhu again for a meeting perhaps the speculations were ended by Sidhu himself in an interview with the private channel stating he has ‘not received any invite.’

In the interview, he further added that he does not want the party to treat him as a ‘showpiece’ during the election campaign. He has even asserted that the party won’t win the Assembly Elections 2022 under the patronage of Capt Amarinder Singh.

Earlier, the AICC panel in a meeting with Punjab CM had reconciled to induct the former politician back, however; Sidhu’s latest interview has stirred another controversy as he repeatedly targeted CM for sidelining him in the party.

Enraged over the remarks, Capt in his last meeting with the panel had made it clear “Not comfortable as a CM to work with Sidhu as a State Unit President.”

It is to be noted here, Sidhu has always received the back of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in the party affairs. Though no meeting is being held on June 30, it could be scheduled any time soon.
