Karan Johar in legal trouble: Delhi HC summons Dharma Production on plea filed by ISRA for 'commercially exploiting' their performance

A single-judge bench of Justice Mukta Gupta issued summons to Karan Johar-owned production house Dharma Productions on the plea filed by the Indian Singers Rights Association suit

Bollywood film-maker Karan Johar's trouble does not seem to stop as the Delhi High Court on Saturday summoned the reply from Karan Johar's Dharma Productions while hearing a petition of Indian Singers Rights Association’s (ISRA) plea seeking royalty for the commercial exploitation of their performance in Gunjan Saxena- The Kargil Girl. 

A single-judge bench of Justice Mukta Gupta issued summons to Karan Johar-owned production house Dharma Productions on the plea filed by the Indian Singers Rights Association’s suit. However, the court has denied any kind of compensation to ISRA until the next hearing. The next hearing of the case will be on 12 March 2021.

 "Considering the fact that the rival contentions and the underlying agreements are yet to be considered by this Court, this Court, at this stage, is deferring passing any order/directions to the defendant to deposit the amount till the next date of hearing before which date parties will complete their pleadings," the court said. 

ISRA alleges that Dharma Productions has used three songs in 'Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl', which is' AG OG '(Ram Lakhan),' Choli Ke Kya Hai '(Khalnayak), and ‘Saajan ji Ghar Aaye’ from the film “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". The association has termed it a violation of the Copyright Act.
