A 51-year-old woman from Yamunanagar, Haryana, recently tested positive for COVID at Fortis Hospital, Mohali. The case comes in the backdrop of a rise in infections with the new JN1 variant in other states of India.

A few days back, Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh addressed public concerns regarding recent COVID-19 cases detected in parts of the country, including Delhi, Haryana, and Kerala. The cases have been linked to the JN1 variant, which the minister emphasized is a mild strain and not associated with serious illness. Dr. Balbir Singh informed that over 98% of patients affected by the JN1 variant across India have already been discharged, indicating a swift recovery rate and minimal complications.

Reassuring the public, he stated that Punjab’s hospitals are fully equipped and the state government is thoroughly prepared to respond to any potential outbreak. “There is no need for panic. The health infrastructure is in place, and we are monitoring the situation closely,” Dr. Balbir added.
