Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched the light and sound show at Sarnath’s Dhamekh Stupa.

The project has been built at an expense of INR 7.99 crores. The tourism department aspires to attract a large number of tourists and earn revenue that is better than before.  Along with this, the purpose of this project is to spread awareness of the heritage site and tell fascinating stories related to Buddha's life.

Show timings are evening 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Keertiman Srivastava, the regional tourism officer, said that the concept of this light and sound show is to tell Gautam Buddha’s life story and convey his teachings to the people.  Sarnath is the place where Buddha had delivered his first sermon after attaining enlightenment.

Sarnath receives a lot of foreign tourists who explore the place during the day. However, the tourism department expects to increase tourist footfall in the evening too by introducing the light and sound show. Interestingly, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan has given the voiceover to the show.

Sarnath is located 10 km from Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. Thus, tourists visiting Varanasi or Kashi prefer making a short trip to Sarnath as well.
