Donations pour in from all quarters to upgrade Govt School in Nawanshahr

Two trolleys of interlock tiles and 40 trolleys of earth filling have been donated by philanthropists for sprucing up the infrastructural facilities in the school.

Acknowledging the efforts being made by the School Education Department in converting the govt schools in the state into ‘Smart School’, three philanthropists belonging to Nawanshahr district have donated two trolleys of interlock tiles and 40 trolleys of earthfilling to Government High School Rakkeran Dhahan.

The philanthropists namely Dr Kulwinder Mann, Senior Medical Officer (SMO Balachaur) and Kashmir Singh, a retired IFS officer and native of Rakkeran Dhahan village, donated one trolley each of interlock tiles, while Dr Gian Kaur Rakker fondly called Bhuaji in the region donated 40 trolleys of earth filling.

As per information, apart from philanthropists, the school teachers and the headmistress Minakshi Bhalla also contributed their bit by donating other required construction material. “Together we can do this”, said Minakshi Bhalla, while adding that the school at present is undergoing major changes and in the time to come, the school will be one of the best schools in the region in terms of infrastructural facilities.

Meanwhile, Prem Rakker, a retired teacher and former state president Govt Teachers Union as well as member of Rakkeran Dhahan Welfare Society, Baldev Raj Shashtri, a member of School Management Committee and Minakshi Bhalla, Headmistress of the School, lauded the gesture of the philanthropists for their consistent support for sprucing up the infrastructural facilities as well converting it into smart school.

Minakshi Bhalla further said that the philanthropists in the region have been playing an important role in the socio-economic development of the state, besides ensuring the well-being of people, especially the younger generation who are the future of Punjab.

She said this contribution would enable the school to ensure the overall personality development of children.

Divulging more details, Minakshi said, “When I joined this school as headmistress about a year ago, it felt as if the school belonged to the 90's. I then decided I need to change the look of the school and convert it into a School of today”.

She added, “Through the support of the teachers and school management committee and of course the school education department, we convinced the NRIs, philanthropists and among other residents of the village to support in any way possible, so that the children of the area has access to latest technology and quality education here itself”.
