An encounter took place in Hoshiarpur, Punjab last night. Anup Kumar “Vicky”, the main accused in the murder case of Sandeep Kumar Chhina, Sarpanch of Dadiana village in the district, got injured in a police encounter late last night. He was hit by two bullets in his right leg by the police’s retaliatory fire. He was subsequently admitted to the government hospital in Hoshiarpur.
The police is not revealing anything yet regarding the matter but sources say that that after killing the Sarpanch, Vicky had taken shelter in a nearby town. On Tuesday night around 11 PM, the police surrounded Vicky on the basis of this information. In an attempt to escape, he opened fire. Vicky was injured when the police shot back in retaliation.
He has been admitted to the government hospital. After initial treatment, he was referred to the Medical College, Amritsar. Five days ago, Sarpanch Chhina was shot dead by three people inside his factory. One accused, Rohit has already been arrested. The family was vehement when they said that they would perform the last rites of Sarpanch Chhina only after the arrest of the main accused. Since the main accused Vicky had not been arrested, Chhina's post-mortem could not be conductied. According to reports, the Sarpanch was murdered due to a personal rivalry.
