Ex-J&K CM Farooq Abdullah tests positive for Covid, son Omar Abdullah says family is self-isolating & will get tested

Farooq Abdullah, who is a Lok Sabha member from Srinagar, got his first dose of Covid-19 vaccine at a hospital earlier this month on March 2.

Former Chief Minister, Lok Sabha member and National Conference (NC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah has tested positive for Coronavirus, his son, Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday. Omar also added that he and his family will go into self-isolation and get themselves tested for Covid. 

"My father has tested positive for COVID-19 & is showing some symptoms. I will be self-isolating along with other family members until we get ourselves tested. I request anyone who has come into contact with us over the last few days to take all the mandated precautions", Omar Abdullah tweeted.

Farooq Abdullah got his first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in Srinagar earlier this month on March 2.

Thanking the doctors and other staff at the hospital for vaccinating the vaccine to his father, Omar Abdullah tweeted, "Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at SKIMS, Srinagar. Today my 85-year-old father & my mother had their first COVID jab. My father has several health issues including being on immunosuppressants for a kidney transplant. If he can get the vaccine, you should as well.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among those who wished the senior leader a speedy recovery. 

"Praying for the good health and speedy recovery of Dr Farooq Abdullah Ji. Also praying for your and the entire family's good health," Modi tweeted.

The pandemic has been registering an alarming surge in J&K during the last week and the number of people testing positive has steadily increased. With the tourist season picking up in Kashmir, it is feared that unless strict action is taken to impose preventive measures, the situation could worsen.
