Holi 2022 Date & why it is being celebrated a day after Holika Dahan 2022

This year Holi 2022 is being celebrated on two days i.e. on March 18 and 19. While the Holika Dahan 2022 will be celebrated on March 17, people might prefer to celebrate the Holi 2022 a data after i.e. on March 19 keeping the planetary alignment in mind. For those who are wondering why there are two Holi 2022 dates, the reason lies in the Hindu calendar. As per the Hindu Calendar, this year the full moon date (Purnima)  is falling for two days. Also, due to the presence of 'Bhadrakal' on the full moon date (Purnima), there is confusion among the people regarding Holi and Holika Dahan.

Holi 2022 date and Holika Dahan 2022 date

According to Hindu mythology, Holika Dahan should be done after sunset on the full moon date (Poornima), but if there is Bhadrakal in the meantime, then Holika Dahan should not be done in Bhadrakal, for this one should have to wait for the end of Bhadrakal. It is very important to have a Purnima date with the presence of Bhadrakal for Holika Dahan. Bhadrakal is considered inauspicious in Hindu scriptures. It is believed that any work done in Bhadrakal is not successful and gives inauspicious results. Accordingly, if we look at the Panchang, Holi should be celebrated on March 19 (when is Holi in 2022).

This year the full moon date (Poornima) will start from 01:29 pm on 17 March 2022 and will last till 12:52 pm on 18 March. Whereas Bhadrakal will start from 01:19 on March 17 itself and will remain till 12:58 in the night, so Holika Dahan (When is Holika Dahan in 2022) will not be celebrated in the evening due to Bhadrakal. Since the night time for Holika Dahan has been considered above, in such a situation Holika Dahan will be possible after Bhadrakal ends at 12:58. The auspicious time for performing Holika Dahan at night is from 12:58 am to 2:12 pm.
