Former Jalandhar Cantonment MLA Jagbir Singh Brar had said Goodbye to Congress party and officially joined Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in presence of SAD Chief Sukhbir Badal here today at his residence in Model Town.

A former block development officer, Brar won the Jalandhar Cantonment seat in 2007 on a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) ticket. However, he had quit SAD and resigned as an MLA to join his cousin Manpreet Badal’s newly floated party- People’s Party of Punjab (PPP).

Despite there was a perception in political circles that Brar regarded Manpreet as his political mentor, they couldn’t work together for a longer period and their relationship turned sour. Brar then left PPP in October 2012 to join Congress and unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls from Jalandhar Cantonment.

However, in 2017, as Pargat joined the Congress on the condition of getting a ticket from Cantt seat, Brar was forced to move to Nakodar where he remained unsuccessful.

Meanwhile, after Pargat Singh publicly attacked CM Capt Amarinder Singh amid Punjab Congress Crisis, Brar was hopeful that he would be fielded from Cantt seat. But things didn’t work in his favour as Pargat’s close friend and colleague Sidhu was appointed the PPCC Chief.

Moreover, with Brar joining Akali Dal today, PPCC chief Navjot Sidhu announced the appointment of Pargat Singh as general secretary (organisation) of the party.
