Fact Check: Lord Ram to replace Mahatma Gandhi on new Rs 500 currency notes issued by RBI?

On Friday, multiple pictures went viral on social media with the claims RBI will issue new banknotes of Rs 500 and Lord Ram's picture will be used in place of Mahatma Gandhi.

While the entire India and the majority of the world are waiting for the holy Pran Pratistha event in Ayodhya's newly built Ram Temple, almost every day a new development comes in that amazes people. From PM Modi on 11 days Anusthan (Special Ritual) to elites of India getting invited, the consecration ceremony of Ramlalla has indeed turned out to be the event of the year. To mark the significance, PM Modi on Thursday issued commemorative postage stamps dedicated to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and a book of stamps issued on Lord Ram by more than 20 countries. On Friday, multiple pictures went viral on social media with the claims that to mark the event, RBI is mulling issuing new banknotes of Rs 500 and Lord Ram's picture will be used in place of Mahatma Gandhi. 

 

In multiple viral Lord Ram Rs 500 notes pics, social media users claim that the Reserve Bank of India will issue on January 22, 2024. Notably, on January 22, PM Modi will participate in the Pran Patistha event in Ayodhya. In the Lord Ram Rs 500 notes viral pics, a picture of the lord can be seen used in place of Mahatma Gandhi. Not only this, on the back of the note, the picture of Ayodhya Ram Mandir is also present.

As a result, True Scoop News tried to dig more about the authenticity of Lord Ram Rs 500 note currencies. Notably, no notification has been issued by the Central Bank (RBI) regarding new notes featuring Lord Ram’s image. Upon analyzing the serial number of the note in the viral image, it becomes evident that the Rs 500 note has been manipulated using photo-editing software to replace Mahatma Gandhi with Lord Ram.

Coming back to PM Modi dedicating Lord Ram's stamp ahead of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir inauguration, the design of the postage stamp includes the Ram Temple, the chaupai 'Mangal Bhavan Amangal Hari', Sun, Saryu river, and sculptures in and around the temple. The six commemorative postage stamps released by PM Modi include the Ram Temple, Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, Jatayu, Kevatraj and Maa Shabari.

 

Along with this, PM Modi also released a book of tickets dedicated to Lord Ram worldwide. This stamp booklet is an effort to showcase Lord Ram's international appeal to various societies.
