
Acceding to the request of Punjab Chief MinisterCharanjit Singh Channi to start paddy procurement at the earliest, theGovernment of India has allowed the State to undertake paddy procurement fromtoday(October 3).
Expressinggratitude to the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi for his immediate personalintervention to advise the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution in this regard,the Chief Minister said this decision would be now instrumental in ensuringsmooth and hassle free procurement of paddy to the satisfaction of the farmers.
It may berecalled the Chief Minister met Mr. Modi yesterday, who had assured him ofearly resolution of this issue.
Notably, theMinistry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, GoI had taken adecision to postpone the paddy procurement from the October 1, the scheduleddate to October 11 at the eleventh hour thus creating unnecessary resentmentand confusion amongst the farmers besides putting the state in quandary.
