In yet another incident promoting communal discrepancy and disruption in society, a video reportedly from a march done at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on August 8 has gone viral due to atrocious communal slogans raised at the event. The police claims event to be organised without authorisation in which hundreds of people gathered for a demonstration.

In the viral video, threatening slogans against Muslims can be heard among chants of "Ram, Ram".

"Hindustan mein rehna hoga, Jai Shri Ram kehna hoga (To stay in India, you must say Jai Shri Ram)," attendees chant during a demonstration organised at one of the country's most visible protest locations which is just a few kilometres from parliament and major government buildings.

Ashwani Upadhyay, a Supreme Court lawyer and former Delhi BJP spokesperson, is said to have organised the march. He claims he was unaware of the video, claiming that just five or six people were shouting slogans and that such an incident should not have happened.

"I have filed a complaint with the Delhi Police to investigate the viral video, and if the video is genuine, then stern action should be done against those involved," he added.

"I have no idea who they are; I have never seen them and have never called them there; they were not seen there till the time I was there," Upadhyay said. "If the video is fake, then propaganda is being spread to discredit Bharat Jodo Andolan," Upadhyay was quoted saying by media outlets.

Shipra Srivastava, the media in-charge of Bharat Jodo Aandolan on the other hand, denied any ties to individuals who shouted anti-Muslim chants.

"The demonstration was against colonial rules and demanded the abolition of 222 British laws; we saw the video but don't know who they are; the police should take strong action against those who yelled the slogans," Srivastava added.

The Delhi Police have opened an investigation and are trying to identify people shown in the video.

The incident occurred in the presence of Narsinghanand Saraswati, known for hate speeches.

According to the authorities, the event was not permitted due to Covid regulations.

Senior police officer Deepak Yadav said that "Individuals who had gathered there had no authorization; it has come to our attention that certain people were shouting provocative and objectionable slogans; we also got a video; necessary action will be taken.”

AIMIM MP, Asaduddin Owaisi also brought the matter up in parliament today.
