FIR filed after miscreants burn firecrackers in Jalandhar amid border tensions; DC issues warning

Following recent missile and drone attacks from Pakistan in regions including Jalandhar and Kapurthala, panic broke out in Jalandhar after unidentified miscreants set off firecrackers, creating confusion and fear among residents.

As India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire on Saturday evening after DGMO-level talks, rumors and fake information flooded social media. Jalandhar, which was also targeted during Pakistani failed missile & drone attacks, witnessed miscreants burning firecrackers to spark panic among the residents. Following recent missile and drone attacks from Pakistan in regions including Jalandhar and Kapurthala, panic broke out in Jalandhar after unidentified miscreants set off firecrackers, creating confusion and fear among residents.

The sudden sound of explosions led many to believe they were under a fresh missile and drone attack. Acting on the situation, the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police registered an FIR against unidentified individuals for attempting to disrupt peace and spread fear among citizens. The FIR was filed by Division No. 8 Police Station based on statements from police personnel. Assistant Sub-Inspector Gurmail Singh of Jalandhar Police stated that despite the ceasefire, certain mischievous elements tried to incite fear by setting off firecrackers late at night. The act created panic among the locals, already on edge due to recent border tensions.

“When the incident came to our notice, a team from Division No. 8 Police Station was dispatched for investigation. Although no specific individuals have been identified so far, an FIR has been registered for misleading the public and disturbing the peace,” ASI Gurmail Singh added.

Following the incident, Jalandhar DC Himanshu Aggarwal also issued an appeal-cum-warning to miscreants trying to disturb the peace of the district. DC Aggarwal on X handle wrote, "A very good morning. All is well here in Jalandhar. As per authentic information received, there is nothing to worry here and work may resume here as normal. Forces are on constant vigil. As abundant caution:
Please discourage local people from bursting crackers, flying drones and forwarding unverified social media messages. Action may be taken against them. We will take immediate action and inform you in time, if there is any information of any threat in the area."
