“First I will have pizza”: Mirabai Chanu after winning Silver medal at Tokyo Olympics

Olympic silver medalist Mirabai Chanu has made every citizen in her country beam with pride and joy after witnessing her dominating performance. Chanu became the first Indian to win an Olympic medal at the 2020 Tokyo Games in the Women's 49kg category.

The 26-year-old prepared hard for the quadrennial competition and part of her preparation included a strict diet. 

 

Mirabai Chanu told in an interview after winning the medal, "First, I am going to have a pizza. It has been a long time since I have not eaten one."

 

She said, "And I have waited for this day for a long time, so first I'll have a pizza."

 

"It's been two days as well since I have eaten, so I'll eat a little extra," she joked.

 

"They have not eaten anything since morning. They said they won't even drink water until my competition was over, so now they have a big meal waiting for them," she revealed about her family.

 

As her interview went viral on internet, Pizza chain Domino’s could not resist rewarding her for her hardwork. They promised weightlifter Mirabai Chanu free pizzas for life after the Olympic athlete helped India win its first silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Talking about her success in Tokyo Olympics, Mirabai stated, "I was very sad after failing in the Rio Olympics. Then I won the gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, after that I thought of keeping an Olympic ring with me. That is when I dreamt of winning an Olympic medal and that's when I made this earring and kept it with me.”

 

"This silver medal is the result of all the sacrifices I have made in my life," Mirabai told in an interview.
