Beating all the odds against herself and setting a great example, Rajasthan’s single mother’s journey from a sweeper to Deputy Collector is remarkable.

Asha Kandara, a single mother of two kids, who works as a sweeper of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation has managed to crack the prestigious Rajasthan Administrative Services (RAS) exam.

The results of RAS were declared on Tuesday night and Asha secured 728th rank in the state.

Her hard work yielded her an exemplary result and with this, she will be soon posted as Deputy Collector in the state.

After the separation from her husband eight years ago, Asha looked at her children’s upbringing on her own. In order to earn a better livelihood for her children, Kandara planned to do something huge thus, started preparing for the state administrative services exam.

Refusing to bow down to the challenges of life, she continued studying for the RAS exam even while rendering her duties as a sweeper. During all these years, she was a temporary employee. However, just 12 days before the announcement of RAS results, she was given a permanent position as a sanitary worker.

Asha says that she always dreamt of becoming a RAS officer, especially after seeing senior officers sitting in their chambers as she swept the floors.

Hence, after her graduation, she started preparing for RAS. Finally, her hard work has yielded results and her dreams have come true.
