Fled from Punjab & became a gangster: Ajay Devgn reveals UNTOLD story of his late father

During the latest episode of Koffee with Karan Season 8, Ajay Devgn opened up on his early life and also shared the untold story of his late father Veeru Devgn.

Ajay Devgn on Thursday appeared on the latest episode of Koffee with Karan Season 8 alongside ace film-maker Rohit Shetty. During the latest episode of Koffee with Karan Season 8, Ajay Devgn opened up on his early life and also shared the untold story of his late father Veeru Devgn from fled from Punjab and became a gangster in Sion, Mumbai. For those who are unaware, Ajay Devgn's father Veeru Devgn was a notable action choreographer, who worked in more than 200 Indian films. 

Koffee with Karan Season host Karan Johar asked Ajay Devgn about his father Veeru and whether he got his due as worked in so many Bollywood movies or his name did not get much recognition in the industry. Answering this, Ajay Devgn said, "Eventually. Obviously, when he also started, he ran away from his house. Hometown in Punjab. He was 13 years. He came to Mumbai without a train ticket. Was taken behind bars. He didn't have any work. So no food. Somebody helped him by saying, 'You wash my cab every day and I will let you sleep in the cab. So, he started from there."

 

"And eventually became a carpenter. And then became one of the gangsters in Sion Koliwada. He was a carpenter also and they had gangs at that time. One day very senior action Director, Mr. Ravi Khanna, was passing by and there was this street fight going on. And he stopped the car after the fight. He called my dad after the fight. And he said, 'What do you do?' He said, 'I am a carpenter here.' He said one very nice line. He said, 'You fight really well. Come and meet me tomorrow.' And he made him a fighter. So, that's where he started from," added Ajay Devgn. 

 

For those who are unaware, Ajay Devgn's father Veeru Devgn hailed from Amritsar, Punjab. He got married to Veena Devgan who was also into films. Veeru Devgan died in the morning of 27 May 2019 in Mumbai, aged 84 due to age-related complications.
