
FormerBihar chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav is likely to walk out of prison soon.The Jharkhand High Court on Saturday granted him bail in connection withwithdrawal of Rs 3.5 crore from the Dumka treasury, in connection with a caselinked to the multi-crore fodder scam.
JusticeAparesh Kumar Singh, granted bail to the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaderduring the hearing on Saturday.
Theformer Bihar CM has been convicted in wrongful withdrawal of money to the tuneof Rs 1,000 crore from Dumka, Chaibasa and Deoghar treasuries and the specialCBI court at Ranchi has already granted him bail in two cases registered inChaibasa and one in Deoghar.
Afterthe bail granted in Dumka treasury case, he is likely to be released from jailsoon.
During1991 to 1996, officials of animal husbandry department of Bihar governmentallegedly drew money from Dumka, Chaibasa and Deoghar when Yadav was the chiefminister of Bihar.
Jharkhandattained statehood in 2000 and became a separate state.
Atpresent, Yadav, 72, is recuperating from severe illness in AIIMS Delhi. He hasalready completed a 42-month jail term.
Heis reportedly suffering from 16 diseases including severe infection in kidneysand water accumulation in the lung.
Earlier,serving a prison term in Ranchi's Hotwar jail, he was shifted to Delhi AIIMSafter doctors informed the court about 75% of his kidneys not functioning. Onthis ground, the high court has granted permission to shift Lalu Prasad Yadavto Delhi for better treatment o January 23 this year.
Afterthe bail, the party released a statement in which it thanked the court. The topleadership of the party has appealed to supporters to celebrate his bail byfollowing Covid protocol. "Our countrymen are undergoing a tough perioddue to pandemic. Hence, we have to follow covid protocol. No one must come to10 circular road, the official residence of former CM Rabri Devi forcelebrations. Bail to our leader has spread great enthusiasm among partysupporters and leaders," the statement said.
