On Tuesday, Google released a Doodle for Teacher Appreciation Day, which is part of National Teacher Appreciation Week, which runs from May 2 to 6.

The Doodle, which emphasizes the importance of learning tools, was inspired by the 2022 State Teachers of the Year. Erich Nagler, the Doodle's creator, spoke with the teachers about their jobs and lives in the classroom, and some even drew their own ideas for a teacher’s gratitude Doodle.

“Teachers empower children with tools to share their ideas,” Nagler wrote in a blog post about the Doodle on Tuesday. “So, I tried to construct a still-life around the teacher's desk and chalkboard with all these different learning instruments.”

Google also published an article about the value of teachers and their potential to impact lives by Kurt Russell, a history teacher at Oberlin High School in Ohio who was selected National Teacher of the Year in 2022.

“I hope all the other teachers who see it on today's site feel seen and celebrated,” Russell said of the State Teachers of the Year who worked together as a community on the Doodle.
