Mexico’s state-owned oil company said a fire caused by a rupture in an undersea gas pipeline in the Gulf of Mexico is over but as per the contents in the video which shows the efforts of putting off the fire, it seems as if this was not fire but an underwater caldron of fire.

The “fire” was put off at 10:45 a.m which was followed by a gas leak in a drilling platform which is about 500 feet long, Pemex tweeted.

The whole incident took about 5 hours to come under control. The company said that no injuries were caused.

The company also reported that the fire was put off by using boats to pump water and by using nitrogen considering a Pemex incident report.

Mexican publications and journalists shared terrific videos as well as pictures that have over 10 million views on Twitter. The horrific scenes show an orange glow below the boiling under the surface of the ocean — and boats spraying streams of water, in an attempt to put out the fire. The pictures, as well as the videos, are all over the internet.

A podcaster Dave Anthony wrote as a caption in his tweet, "Never in your life forget the time humans caught the ocean on fire and then tried to put it out by spraying water on it"

Social media was overcrowded with a lot of variable reactions ranging from concern to confusion. Some people can’t even believe the horrors that the undersea gas pipeline brought with it.
