Harassment of Girl Sparks Gunfire Incident in Jalandhar; Five Arrested

 A late-night incident in Jalandhar escalated from harassment to gunfire, leading to the arrest of five suspects. The incident occurred when a girl, who had gone out to purchase some items, was allegedly harassed by a group of local men. When the girl informed her family and they attempted to resolve the situation, the accused retaliated by vandalizing their home and opening fire.

Police from Division Number 8 arrived at the scene, recovering a country-made pistol and three rounds from the crime scene. An FIR was registered against the accused under the Arms Act and for attempted murder.

The incident took place in an area where authorities had earlier claimed to have implemented strict security measures, especially due to the ongoing crowd at the nearby Sodhal Mela. However, the attackers managed to carry out the shooting using an illegal weapon, raising concerns about the effectiveness of local security.

Victim’s Family Speaks Out

The victim, Sona Rani, shared that her daughter was harassed while returning from the market. After the family learned about the incident and tried to calm things down, the accused, along with his associates, attacked their home with sharp weapons and a country-made pistol. A young family member sustained minor injuries during the attack.

Arun, the victim’s brother, said they had just returned from the Sodhal Mela when they discovered the assault. The attack was allegedly led by a man named Mona, along with his associate Rocky and others.

Police Action and Investigation

Later that night, police detained five suspects involved in the incident and recovered a country-made pistol and three rounds. The authorities have filed cases under the Arms Act and for attempted murder. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed to identify other potential suspects.
