Haryana farmers have discovered a unique way to support the ongoing farmers’ agitation against the Centre's new Farm Laws by getting catchy slogans like “no farmers, no food” and photos of farmer leader Sir Chhotu Ram printed on wedding invitation cards. Photos of freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh too are also being asked to be printed on to the invitation cards amid peak wedding season, said the printing press owner.
“We are getting requests from many farmer families and some others as well to have slogans like ''no farmers, no food'' and photos of Sir Chhotu Ram and Bhagat Singh printed on the wedding cards,” said the owner.
Born on November 24, 1881, Sir Chhotu Ram and is considered as a messiah of peasants. He contributed to empowering farmers in the pre-Independence time and fought for their rights during the British rule.
Slogans coined by several farmers' unions to highlight their struggles and demand have played a crucial part in helping the protest reach the masses especially the city residents.
A farmer from Dundhrehri village, Prem Singh Goyat, is among those who have got the pro-farmer slogan printed on his son's wedding invitation card.
“My son was getting married and it struck me why not have pictures of Sir Chhotu Ram and Shaheed Bhagat Singh printed on the invitation card," said Goyat, adding that all people are in support of the protesting farmers and urged the government to accept their demand of scrapping the three farm laws.
Thousands of farmers have been protesting at Delhi''s borders since last year's November, demanding a rollback of the three Agri laws, climbing that the new laws will dismantle the minimum support price (MSP) system, leaving them at the "mercy" of big corporations. However, the government has maintained its claims by assuring that the new laws will bring better opportunities for farmers and help introduce new technologies in agriculture.
