Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya visited former Prime minister Manmohan Singh who is admitted to New Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), early on Thursday morning. He was ill with dengue and admitted to AIIMS.

Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya took a photographer with him for which he was criticized and questioned. Several people tweeted that Singh seemed to be very weak and was not seeming to be in a condition to be photographed for which his and his family's privacy may have been violated. The family said that the Prime Minister was susceptible to infections and the health minister took photographer along with him which was not safe for Singh and his family worried after this. People also questioned why the hospital would let a photographer into a patient’s room, especially without his family’s explicit permission.

Daman Singh, daughter of Manmohan Singh said, "He is stable but considering his age and the illness, his immunity is low. “It was nice of the health minister to express his concern and visit him at AIIMS. However, the family was in no state to be photographed at the time. My mother [Gursharan Kaur] insisted that the photographer should leave the room because of the fear of infection due to which there is restricted entry to the room but she was completely ignored.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too visited AIIMS, and reportedly spoke to Singh’s wife and the doctors attending to him.
