Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Jairam Thakur, on July 26, informed about the rescue operation being conducted at the site of landslide in Kinnaur district. CM Thakur said, “Around 100-120 people, including tourist and locals, are still stranded at the site of the incident. We're making all possible efforts to rescue them. The District Administration has been put on high alert after heavy rain warning.”

The cause for concern is the heavy rainfall warning that is still in place for the region and the district administration is on alert for any untoward incident that may occur.

At least nine people lost their lives yesterday while three others sustained injuries after a bridge collapsed in Kinnaur. The bridge gave way after boulders rolled down a hill following a landslide. 

Rocks rolled down the hill near Batseri to Sangla Chitkul road on Sunday. One of the boulders hit a tempo in which 11 people, including the driver, were travelling.While nine persons died, two others suffered injuries. A passerby was also injured in the incident.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolence in the Himachal Pradesh landslide incident when heavy boulders fell on them. PM Modi also spoke with Himachal Pradesh CM Jai Ram Thakur and has taken stock of the situation.

"An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in an accident in Kinnaur, Himachal Pradesh. Rs 50,000 would be given to the injured," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.
