
AsBaisakhi marks the foundation day of the 'Khalsa Panth' by the 10th Sikh Guru,Gobind Singh, devotees across Punjab and Haryana on the occasion today throngedgurdwaras, including the Harmandir Sahib popularly known as Golden Temple inAmritsar, to mark the festival of Baisakhi i.e the Sikh New Year. It also marksthe start of the harvest season.
ChiefMinister Amarinder Singh greeted Punjabis across the world on the sacredoccasion of the Sajna Divas of the Khalsa Panth and Baisakhi, which symbolisesthe spirit of Punjab, Punjabi and Punjabiat.
Ina message, he reminded the people of the centuries-old rich cultural heritageof Punjab, and exhorted them to uphold those traditions.
Herecalled that on this auspicious day in 1699, Guru Gobind Singh created the‘Order of Khalsa' at the holy city of Sri Anandpur Sahib by baptising ‘PanjPyaras' (beloved ones) belonging to different castes.
Theestablishment of the Khalsa Panth marked the creation of an egalitariansociety, while preaching the wisdom of compassion for mankind, along withcommunal harmony, he said.
AmarinderSingh said this festival also marked the onset of the harvest season and theripening of crops.
TheChief Minister called upon the people to celebrate the historic festival in aspirit of brotherhood but with strict adherence to the Covid-19 safety norms asthis is a different Baisakhi.
"Letus pray to Akalpurkh to keep us, and our Punjab, in the Charhdi Kala, to keepus safe and happy always," said the Chief Minister.
