Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday met the family of the nine-year-old Dalit girl who was allegedly raped, murdered and forcibly cremated in the Nangal Rai area of Delhi Cantonment on Sunday. "I spoke with the family. They want justice and nothing else. They're saying justice is not being given to them and that they should be helped. We will do that. I said 'I am standing with you. Rahul Gandhi is standing with them until they get justice'," news agency ANI said quoting Mr Gandhi.

"Her parents' tears are saying only one thing - their daughter, the daughter of this country, deserves justice. And I am with them on this path of justice,” Gandhi tweeted shortly after meeting the family.

Mr Gandhi tweeted on the incident yesterday too and called her "the nation's daughter" drawing reference to India's women Olympians who have brought accolades for the nation.

"The daughter of a Dalit is also the daughter of the country,” he wrote.

However, Rahul Gandhi’s visit was protested by some locals pointing that the councillor of the area, who is also from Congress has not even bothered to show up.

To this, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala claimed that Mr Gandhi has not come there to meet the parents to do politics and will take up the matter in the parliament.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will also meet the family of the minor girl on Wednesday. In a tweet he said, "Going to meet the victim's family tomorrow, will do everything possible to help the family in this fight for justice.”

What is the Delhi minor girl rape about?

A 9-year-old girl who belongs to the scheduled caste category was allegedly raped and murdered in Nangal village of Delhi, on July 1; later was forcibly cremated.

According to the police, the girl had gone out to fetch drinking water from the cooler at a crematorium near her home. After a time apart, a priest from the crematorium, Radhey Shyam arrived at the victim’s mother and took her to the crematorium and showed her the body of the girl. He said she was electrocuted while drinking water from the cooler.

The victim’s mother said that there were burn marks on the wrist and the girl’s elbow and the lips were blue.

The accused then cremated the girl’s body without her mother’s consent saying that if a police case is lodged it will lead to a postmortem where organs are stolen.

Some locals even doubt the parents were paid money to keep shut.

Following this, the mother and some locals raised the alarm and the police were called.

A case was registered and the priest has been arrested.

Meanwhile, Ingit Pratap Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of Police said that the postmortem was indecisive, so they would take the four accused for a face polygraph (lie detector) and narcotics (drug) tests. After examination, the water cooler was passing electric current, Mr Singh said.

A senior police official said, "Forensic examination of the water cooler found an electric current... In the beginning, the girl's family said the death was due to electrocution. Accused have also admitted death occurred due to electric current.” Also adding the accused's clothes will be tested.

"We will present the charge sheet very soon... there is a time of 60 days to present it," he said.
